Our Services: Local Law 26 of 2004

Need to comply with Local Law 26? We're here to help.

Local Law 26/04 requires all office buildings 100 feet or more in height to have a Full Fire Sprinkler System by July 1, 2019.

The Process

Inspections

Chief Fire Prevention performs routine inspections and testing to fulfill the fire department and insurance company's requirements, and most importantly to ensure your safety. We are very familiar with NFPA25, which is the current standard for inspection, testing, and maintenance of water-based fire protection systems. Get a free estimate today on a fire inspection for your building.

Inspection and testing requirements are established by your local fire department and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). NFPA25 is the current standard for inspection, testing, and maintenance of water-based fire protection systems. It requires an in-depth visual inspection every month in addition to periodic testing. These testing requirements vary depending on the type of system you have.

Let us help you keep your building up to code. Our inspectors, who hold S-12 Sprinkler and S-13 Standpipe Certificates of Fitness, perform regular inspections to help identify any issues before they become out of hand and expensive. Following the inspection, the results, observations, and deficiencies are reviewed by our in-house inspection manager. If any impairments are found, we will notify you immediately.

Testing

When was the last time you had your fire sprinkler system tested?

Fire sprinkler systems are only effective if they work. We offer testing to fulfill fire department and insurance requirements, to correct violations, or just to ensure your system's flow and pressure are working properly.

By performing tests, we can confirm that the proper water supply is available, all devices and components are in working condition, and that your system will be ready in case of emergency.

Do you have a fire department test coming up? We recommend you schedule a "pretest" 30 days prior to your fire department test date. This allows time to correct any deficiencies so that you don't need to worry if your system will pass the day of the actual test.

Service & Repair

Did your sprinkler system freeze up? Do you have a tripped system?

Our highly skilled and trained service technicians are dedicated 24/7 to making sure your system is in proper working condition.

Whether it's repairing a damaged pipe or installing a sign, Chief Fire can help. We understand how important response time is in the case of emergency. Our mechanics are available 24/7 to service your system. We provide a free quote for deficiencies found during inspections and testing and will schedule a repair at a time convenient for you.

Don't freeze up! Winterize your sprinkler system. We'll send you a friendly reminder ahead of time to perform winterization, so you can avoid the headache of frozen pipes and broken fittings in the cold winter months.

Violations

Did you receive a notice of fire sprinkler violation from the FDNY?

Chief Fire Prevention will provide you with the proper paperwork, scheduling, testing, and repairs in order to guide you through the process of clearing your violations. We can assist with FDNY, ECB (Environmental Control Board) violations as well as DOB (Department of Buildings) to correct the violating condition. We will work with you to ensure that your sprinkler system is compliant with FDNY requirements.

The best way to avoid violations is to make sure your fire sprinkler system is regularly inspected and tested by a professional company.

NFPA25

The NFPA standard that describes the minimum amount of work that needs to be performed in order to maintain a sprinkler/standpipe system is NFPA 25, Standard for the Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance (ITM) of Water-Based Fire Protection Systems. NFPA25 details a schedule of inspections, testing, and maintenance to be done monthly, quarterly, annually, and etc.

Once a fire sprinkler/standpipe system has been installed, it needs to be maintained in working condition. This means that we need to conduct inspections to make sure that the equipment appears to be in proper working order, tests to prove that the equipment will operate appropriately, and maintenance work to help prevent equipment from breaking down in the future.

NFPA25 outlines inspection and testing procedures for different system types. We typically survey a building to determine the system type and components (such as a dry system or a fire pump). We then dictate the inspections and testing that is required by NFPA25 for your property. By following this standard, we can identify deficiencies and make corrections if necessary.

The FDNY is enforcing NFPA25 and failure to comply may result in violations and or penalties. Worse, you can potentially be open to defects or an improperly functioning system. Did you receive a violation from the FDNY? Chief Fire Prevention can help.
